Student research
The department’s teaching staff provide extensive support and training to students aiming to prepare them for participation in intra-university and international exchange projects relevant to their future careers. This creates a valuable opportunity for students with high motivation and excellent command of English to exercise their creativity and language skills. The international programmes provide a challenging context in which students can practice their skills in communicating their ideas in a foreign language, present and argue their position, and analyse a variety of cases relevant to their study areas.
Students in economic specialties have been awarded prizes in the finals of the Competition "Business Case Analysis" and of the IBS Case Contest. Both were organised by the Russian Plekhanov University and conducted in the English language. The jury noted with appreciation the logical thinking, presentation and language skills demonstrated by the members of the BSU team.
With mentorship from the Department’s teaching staff, students in the economic specialties have participated on multiple occasions in the International Public Speaking Contest hosted by the Faculty of International Relations, and in the national public speaking competition hosted annually by the Minsk State Linguistic University. These are some of the most popular English language competitions in public speaking. In addition to excellent linguistic skills, contestants are assessed on their ability to argue their case and convince their audiences. The international public speaking competition is the flagship initiative of the British English Speaking Union, an organisation that brings together people and cultures throughout the world.
