December 17-18, 2018, Alexey Goretsky, Head of the Center for International Studies, Faculty of International Relations, BSU took part in the international conference held in Chisinau on the topic “Non-discrimination as one of the core values of the modern society” in the delegation from the Republic of Belarus.
Representatives of the Supreme Court, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the National Center for Legislation and Legal Research (hereinafter referred to as the NCLLR) of the Republic of Belarus, as well as the Center for Human Rights of the Faculty of International Relations of the BSU also took part in the conference from the Republic of Belarus.
During the conference, certain areas of combating discrimination and ensuring equality in European countries, the particularities of protecting vulnerable groups (Roma) were discussed, and reports of the European Union’s Eastern Partnership initiative on these issues were presented.
The experience of legal regulation of counteracting discrimination and promoting equality in the Republic of Belarus was presented by the adviser-consultant of the department of constitutional law of the Department of Constitutional and International Law of the NCLLRV. Disko.
Following the conference, an exchange of viewson possible ways to enhance the protection of citizens' rights in the above areas took place.
November 1-2, 2018 the Head of the Center for International Studies of the Faculty of International Relations of BSU Alexey Goretsky took part in an international seminar on the topic “Rules and standards of international cooperation within the framework of the Belt and RoadInitiative (BRI)”, which was held in Xi'an City (Shaanxi Province, PRC).
This event was organized by the China Center for International Knowledge on Development (CIKD)of the Development Research Center under the State Council of the People’s Republic of China (http://en.drc.gov.cn/).
The following issues were discussed:
- the BRI and anti-corruption;
- sustainable financing of the BRI;
- the BRI and environmental protection;
- the BRI and corporate social responsibility;
- the BRI and international rules: approaches to the way forward.
More than 50 delegates from among politicians, diplomats, foreign experts, representatives of authority and government, international non-governmental organizations and public structures took part in the seminar.

Actual problems of international relations and global development – annual collection of scientific papers (ISSN 2311 – 9470 (print), book series), established in 2013 by the Center for International Studies of the Faculty of International Relations of the Belarusian State University, Minsk. This is a publication on international relations with a special focus on the history of international relations, political problems of international relations, global and regional development.
Being included in the international academic discourse, it is international in editorial board and topic coverage. The papers from recognized experts and promising scholars from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, European and Central Asian countries are introduced in editions. Prospective contributors from other countries are also invited to present their approaches to the solutions of the current issues of international agenda. The edition welcomes publication of reviews, articles in English.

The Center for International Studies of the faculty of international relations of the Belarusian State University was established in March 2000 as a structural unit of the BSU (since 2009 – a structural unit of the FIR) as a result of a joint initiative of Belarusian scientists representing the academic community and the Belarusian State University with the support of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus. It is the only similar center in higher educational institutions of the country.
Supporting development of the national school of international studies through the creation of an effective communication environment for scientists, experts, diplomats and specialists, strengthening the ties of civil society, academic science and foreign policy practice are the main tasksof the Center. Experts and international scientists from state and non-state research institutions, higher education institutions of Belarus and other countries participate in the projects of the center. Export of scientific production of CIS, increase of efficiency of activity and scientific reputation of CIS, participation in educational programs of faculty of the international relations of BSU are priority in activity of the organization now.
In accordance with the Regulations, the main activities of the center are:
- organization and carrying out scientific research in the field of international multilateral cooperation, topical issues of the international agenda, including regular research and assessment of the political, economic and humanitarian dimensions of state-to state relations of Belarus;
- interaction with domestic and foreign research structures, which are engaged in the study of international relations;
- promoting the collection and dissemination of information and analytical materials on the international activities of the Republic of Belarus among interested organizations and institutions;
- preparation and holding of scientific and practical conferences and seminars on foreign policy and foreign economic issues;
- providing high-quality training of specialists in the specialties of the faculty of international relations, scientific and pedagogical personnel of higher qualification;
- assistance to the teaching staff and students in educational, methodological, research and information and analytical work in the field of research on international issues.
The Center for International Studies (CIS) is a partner of the Shanghai cooperation organization Forum of the Republic of Belarus. Since 2011, the representative of CIS annually participates in the meetings of the Forum.
Since 2013, the Center for International Studies has been publishing a collection of scientific articles "Actual problems of international relations and global development" (http://www.elib.bsu.by/handle/123456789/90575), the order of The higher certifying Commission of the Republic of Belarus of 22.04.2015 No. 100 the collection is included in the list of scientific editions of Republic of Belarus for publication of results of dissertational researches (http://vak.org.by/list-2017-01-06) on specialties: 07.00.15-history of international relations and foreign policy; 23.00.04-political problems of international relations, global and regional development.
Over the years, CIS has organized and held about 60 scientific events; published more than 15 scientific publications, the staff of CIS for the period 2010-2017, published 23 scientific articles, 66 abstracts of scientific papers, prepared sections in the collective monograph.
Since 2011, in cooperation with the International Alferov Foundation for support of education and science Centre for International Studies announces and holds a contest of scientific papers among young scientists on international issues (history, sociology, law, political science).

During the period of its existence, the Center for International Studies carried out research work in the framework of cooperation with public authorities, in particular the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, CISstaff participated in the work of interdepartmental groups to prepare initiatives of the Republic of Belarus in the UN, the development of legislation of the relevant profile. In 2014-2015, the research task "the Effectiveness of international multilateral cooperation in the country's foreign policy in the context of globalization and regional integration (for example, the Republic of Belarus)" was implemented within the framework of the state research INSTITUTE "History, culture, society, state", the subprogramme "Sociology and philosophy".
