The Department of International Law was established in 1992 at the Faculty of Law of the Belarusian State University. In connection with the creation of the Faculty of International Relations in 1995, the Department was transferred to the faculty and was one of the three graduating departments (along with the Departments of International Relations and International Economic Relations) that formed the Faculty of International Relations. Since the foundation of the Department in 1992, the head of the Department had been Ms. Lyudmila V. Pavlova, PhD in law, associate professor. Currently, the Department of International Law is headed by Ms. Svetlana M. Ananich, PhD in law, associate professor. The Department is the base of the Belarusian scientific school of international law (the founders of the school are Doctor of law Yury P. Brovka and professor Lyudmila V. Pavlova). The department provides training for specialists in general higher education (bachelor's degree) at the Faculty of International Relations in the specialty: 6-05-0421-02 "International Law." Qualification: Lawyer. The department offers graduate programs in International Law. A unique feature of this specialty is that, in addition to studying international law and the national law of the Republic of Belarus, it requires in-depth study of two foreign languages beginning in the first year. The following languages are typically offered: English, German, French, Spanish, Swedish, and Italian. Languages are studied, including in terms of professional legal vocabulary. This specialization will be of interest to those interested in jurisprudence beyond just domestic law. Studying this specialization requires an in-depth study of international law—that is, the legal regulation of international relations. At the second stage of higher education (Master's degree), the department provides training at the Faculty of International Relations in the specialties 7-06-0421-01 "Jurisprudence", 7-06-0421-01 "Jurisprudence" in English - "International Business Law" and "International Regulation of Digital Economy". The department trains highly qualified scientific and pedagogical personnel (postgraduate and doctoral studies) in the specialty 12.00.10 - international law, regional integration law; 12.00.03 - civil law; business law; family law; international private law. At the Department, student scientific and practice-oriented circles have been created and operate, as well as a student research laboratory "The Law of International Security" under the guidance of Doctor of law, professor, UN special rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on human rights Ms. Alena F. Douhan. The Department of International Law acts as an expert base on various international legal aspects of the activities of the Republic of Belarus. The staff of the Department has repeatedly submitted expert opinions at the request of the state bodies of the Republic of Belarus (the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, the Prosecutor General's Office). At the invitation of state bodies and international organizations, the Department staff have repeatedly participated as national experts in the realization of projects related to the implementation of international legal standards and obligations of the Republic of Belarus, as well as experts in the working groups for the preparation of draft regulatory legal acts of the Republic of Belarus. A number of employees of the Department have repeatedly acted in the Economic Court of the Commonwealth of Independent States as general advisers and experts. In the process of implementing practice-oriented training of specialists in the field of international law, the Department actively cooperates with state bodies and institutions of the Republic of Belarus, representative offices and bodies of international organizations: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, the Institute of Legal Studies of the National Center for Legislation and Legal Studies of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, Economic Court of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Court of the Eurasian Economic Union, Belarusian Red Cross Society. |
