“It was a great pleasure to meet the Swiss ambassador here, in the Belarusian State University. The talk was an interesting one — it was a good opportunity to know more about (or refresh) the events and milestones of the Swiss history which lead to the well-known Swiss Neutrality that the country of Switzerland is famous for.
Some facts about how the Swiss deal with the four national languages were an interesting addition as well. Also it was interesting to look at the Swiss point of view on such things influencing modern international relations, like far-right politicians and movements and presidency of Donald Trump.
I hope that such meetings with interesting people from abroad will be held again and I hope that Mr. Ambassador might visit our faculty more”.

Today, on March 27, the Faculty of International Relations hosted an online lecture by the Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Belarus via Skype. Mr. Ambassador gave a lecture on the history of Switzerland and the peculiarities of the country's neutrality during world wars and conflicts. At the end of the lecture, students were given the opportunity to ask questions to the Ambassador: Switzerland's cooperation with the EU countries, the language features of Switzerland and issues of tolerance.
We are particularly grateful to Mr. Ambassador Claude Altermatt for his informative and interesting presentation and for his personal openness and goodwill.

I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Ambassador for this informative lecture. It was a pleasure to discover in depth the grounds and the prospectives of the Swiss neutrality from both historic and juridical point of view. Despite the specific format of the lecture and lack of real personal contact, the speaker managed to create very pleasant and welcoming atmosphere and provided the listeners with detailed answers to all the questions.

Thank you so much for such an informative presentation! It is a pity that our meeting had to be held in this format, but everything worked out quite well. We would love to see you once again and have a meeting in person. Take care of yourself and stay healthy!
Yours faithfully,
