UN Conference on Humanitarian Action in a Sanctions Environment to Take Place in Geneva
The mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights is organizing a key event titled "Conference on Humanitarian Action, Remedy and Responsibility in a Unilateral Sanctions Environment." The Conference is scheduled to take place on 9-10 April 2026 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva (Room VII).
The core of the conference will be dedicated to discussing fundamental up-to-date draft documents: The Guiding Principles on humanitarian action in the face of unilateral sanctions and The Guiding Principles on effective remedy and responsibility in a unilateral sanctions environment with The related Commentary.
Pressing global issues require thorough expert consideration to be properly addressed. Broad engagement with these critical topics is seen as essential for upholding international law against malicious encroachments, harmful practices and direct breaches of its norms.
The conference will be held in a hybrid format, allowing for both in-person participation in Geneva and online attendance. This ensures accessibility for all interested parties. Those wishing to participate must complete their registration by the deadline of 30 March 2026 via the following link: https://indico.un.org/event/1022203/registrations/.
More detailed information about the conference agenda and objectives is available on the official event page: https://www.ohchr.org/en/events/events/2026/conference-humanitarian-action-remedy-and-responsibility-unilateral-sanctions.
